Ms. Sargent’s Grade 4 students are excited to share their Rube Goldberg machines with you! As part of their Energy & Motion Science Unit, students applied what they learned to design and build creative chain-reaction machines.
Throughout the process, students observed how energy is stored, released, and transferred, making thoughtful adjustments to improve their designs. The result? Incredible problem-solving, teamwork, and lots of excitement!
📸 Check out a few photos from the project below, and be sure to watch the short video at the end to see one of the machines in action. The students were so proud of their work—and we are too! 💚🐝

Mrs. Gridley’s fourth graders are learning what it means to be true scholars—by practicing perseverance! 💪 Students worked together to try flipping a tablecloth from one side to the other without their feet touching the floor. While they didn’t quite succeed this time, they collaborated, listened to one another, helped each other, laughed, and persevered through a tough challenge. These moments build essential life skills and teach our students to embrace challenges with a positive mindset! Way to go! #EIS #DT2030 #WeAreDR

I graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 1965 and went on to Northeastern University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts as a math major while playing four years on the men’s basketball team. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Hopkins, and soon after began my career in education. I taught mathematics and coached freshmen basketball at Somerset High School from 1970 to 1973.
In 1973, Superintendent Joseph C. Harrington hired me to return to DRRHS as a math teacher and boys’ basketball coach. I spent the next 24 years on the sidelines, and in 1990, I was honored to serve as President of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches’ Association. I also completed my Master of Education in School Administration from Bridgewater State University in 1984 and served as Mathematics Department Head from 1991 to 1995.
From 1997 to 2002, I served as Assistant Principal at DRRHS before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, where I worked until my retirement in 2006. Along the way, I also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.
Liz and I raised two children who make us incredibly proud: Erika (DRRHS 1995, Duke University 1999) and Steven (DRRHS 2002, Western New England University 2006). Our greatest joy now comes from our four grandchildren—Benjamin, Emerson, Matthew, and Annie—who fill our lives with energy and laughter.
In retirement, I enjoy golf, fishing, and staying connected to the community. In 2025, I was proud to return once more to DRRHS as a member of the branding committee for the high school’s new visual identity.
Looking back, I am grateful for a career centered on education, athletics, and service—and for the family and community that have supported me throughout the journey.

We are so grateful for our community partners at the Rehoboth Police Department. We can always count on RPD, and we truly appreciate their increased presence at PRES this week—we love having them here! From high fives with Sgt. Aguiar to reading lessons with SRO Detective Hedrick, our students light up when they visit. Thank you, Rehoboth Police Department, for your continued support, partnership, and commitment to our kids. #DRivingTowards2030 #EIS #WeAreDR
